Why We Shoot for the Cure

Every goal scored, every sprint down the field, and every save made during the Shoot for the Cure tournament represents something bigger than soccer.

Breast cancer affects families, teammates, friends, and entire communities. Many of us have stood beside someone fighting this disease. Others carry the memory of someone who fought with courage. This tournament exists for them.

Fort Wayne United is proud to use this event as a platform to support breast cancer research and awareness, with fundraising efforts benefiting the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer, a long‑standing partner committed to advancing research and improving lives. 

Since its beginning, Shoot for the Cure has united athletes, families, and supporters around a shared mission—turning competition into compassion and teamwork into impact. Together, participating teams have helped raise over $125,000 for breast cancer research, proving that a community working together can drive meaningful change. 

Why does this matter?

 Because 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and ongoing research is critical to improving detection, treatment, and survival outcomes. Funds raised through this tournament directly support innovative research efforts aimed at finding a cure and giving hope to future generations. 

When our players take the field, they play with purpose.
